David's supreme desire was to "dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple" (Ps. 27:4). The phrases "house of the LORD" and "temple" speak of being in the presence of God. David also spoke of being "in his dwelling" and "in the shelter of his tabernacle" (v. 5), places of protection and security.
